In a notice released today, Sony Computer Entertainment said that it will end support for Playstation Mobile on Android devices.

The service, which allowed users to purchase and play games, will continue to exist, and those who use a Playstation certified Android device running OS 4.4.2 will be able to use the application with no issues. Users who decide to upgrade to OS 4.4.3 or later may begin to encounter errors, such as not being able to access the store. According to a FAQ found in the notice, the upcoming Android L OS won't have any access to the store.

A firm reason for the end of support was not given, however SCE notes that it's looking to focus efforts on the Playstation Vita ecosystem. Last week Sony released update 1.75 for the PS4 which added, among other things, 3D Blu-Ray playback for the console.

This news is disapointing for gamers with a Google Android phone, or Tablet like the Wikipad which is fast enough to play Playstation Mobile game.

Sony not supporting their apps and mobile games like Playstation mobile is one more reason not to buy Sony's Google Android smartphones, or tablet, and buy a Nvidia Shield handheld or tablet instead because at least Nvidia still release games like Half-life 2, and Portal to its TegraZone Apps store for Nvidia Tegra mobile devices.

Yeah it makes sense from a business standpoint. They will want to push people either towards a PlayStation Now compatiable device when such a thing comes available or towards the Vita.

I think Sony is fully realizing they have no place in the mobile market.
I agree that Sony is probably exiting the mobile market because Sony is no longer making eReaders, and shutting down Playstation Mobile.

I bet Sony will also stop making tablets and smartphones in the future because most people buy tablets and Smartphones from Apple, Amazon, Samsung, and Google. There are also now tablets and smartphones from Nvidia, Xiaomi, ZTE, and many lesser known brands which offer better performance and quality for the same price, or lower price compared to a mobile device made by Sony.

I never really used the application, but I was hoping I would as soon as I got a new phone.
It is kind of unexpected and sad but I don't thinK I will miss it.

I think Sony should just release games on to the Google Play, iOS, and Amazon App store like Sega, SquareEnix, and EA instead of making a seperate app for buying, downloading, installing, and updating apps. A lot of people don't like installing seperate apps which slow down devices and uses storage space to do stuff which they can do with apps they already installed on their mobile like the Google Play app which is used to search for apps and games to buy, download, install, and update apps and games.
