PSP is still a hot piece of hardware in Japan, consistently placing at the top of the weekly hardware charts with 30,000 to 60,000 unit sales. That's just for PSP-3000, though. Sony's download counterpart, PSP go, consistently places at the bottom of the charts, barely cracking the 1,000 sold mark.
Why the discrepancy? One possible factor is that PSP go can't play the PSP platform's biggest game, Capcom's Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. With over 3.8 million units shipped to Japan alone, it's pretty clear that Japan wants to play this game.
Sony and Capcom will be rectifying the situation shortly. Today in Japan, the two firms announced that Freedom Unite will at long last become available in download form. A PlayStation Store release is set for the 18th at 1,600 yen.
Sony is so excited about this news that it has decided to give Freedom Unite away. Starting on the 18th, new PSP go buyers will receive a product code for downloading the game for free. Yes, PSP go has a packin of sorts.
Separately, Konami got in on the PSP go love today with the announcement that Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker will see a download version released opposite the full retail version. In Japan, that release is set for April 29.
PSP go still can't play games like Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep and Namco Bandai's God Eater, the latter now above the 500,000 total sales mark. But the availability of Monster Hunter is a good sign that Sony hasn't given up on the system. At the very least, we can probably expect PSP go to outsell PS2 in next week's sales charts.

the fact that there giving out games for free means that sony fears that made a crappy handheld and don't want to believe it.
