Earlier today we brought you the story of how Sony is hoping Sackboy, the malleable main character in upcoming game LittleBigPlanet will become their company mascot. But here's a part of the story we didn't mention: Sony is hoping sign-thieves do some of their work for them.

According to Advertising Age, Sony plans to make 1,000 miniature, LittleBigPlanet billboards, complete with working lights and miniature ladders. Each will be about the size of a yard sign, and they'll be stuck all over Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York. Then people will steal them. This isn't a problem, according to Sony, it's a plan.

A Sony spokesperson told Ad Age that boosted signs advertised on eBay will add to the hype surrounding the game.

this is a wtf post!

I don't see whats so smart. They think it'll increase hype? I think it'll help police catch thieves.

On an unrelated note, this reminds me of a story:

Some guy bought a new fridge for his house. To get rid of his old fridge, he put it in his front yard and hung a sign on it saying: "Free to good home. You want it, you take it." For three days the fridge sat there without even one person looking twice at it. He eventually decided that people were too un-trusting of this deal. It looked to good to be true, so he changed the sign to read: "Fridge for sale $50." The next day someone stole it.
