Sony has posted its financial results for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014, revealing a billion-dollar overall loss despite rising sales.

The company announced an overall loss of $1.29 billion, despite sales rising 14.3 percent to $75.4 billion. The reasons for this, as we've heard before, include aggressive restructuring with the PC business being sold off and the TV business getting spun out. Sad to see Sony still losing money. But, I guest it is harder to sell expensive electronics when there are many cheaper priced brands like LG, Lenovo, and Vzio which sells the same stuff for a lower price, and decent quality.

I think a lot of people don't feel like paying the extra $50-100s of dollars for Sony branded products like TVs, computers, Cameras, smartphones, and tablets, and rather buy from brands like LG, Samsung, Asus, Lenovo, or budget brands like RCA, Proscan, Insignia, etc because of the lower prices, nice featueres, good design and good enough quality where cheap stuff last for many years.

A lot of the people who buy expensive tech products just stick to buying Bose head phones and speakers, Apple's iPod, iPad, Macbook, Mac Pro, and iMac.

People who want to buy expensive Windows or Linux computers just build their own Gaming computer, or buy from iBuypower, CyberPowerPC, and Falcon where the prices are higher, but the computers are very fast compared to most computers made by Dell, Sony, and HP where the computers are cheaper, but the computers are a lot slower than a Gaming PC brand like Falcon.
