sourceSony Computer Entertainment president Andrew House believes the PlayStation 4 is catering to Wii owners who skipped the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Speaking with Eurogamer, House said Sony is targeting Wii owners with the PlayStation 4, which has seen strong sales since launching late last year. And that strategy has already been successful, according to House.
"Our big opportunity is to welcome back an audience much earlier in the lifecycle that possibly bought into the Wii previously," House said. "Whether it's based on this is a really good all-round entertainment device for a family in addition to having great games, our consumer data suggests some of those people are already coming in now and that's what's contributing to the really great sales we've had."
House also used this data as a good reason for Sony to look at remastering more PlayStation 3 games, like the company's doing with the upcoming The Last of Us: Remastered. While the president knows dedicated players may not believe it, he says "there's an opportunity" to remaster more PlayStation 3 games because a chunk of PlayStation 4 owners never got a chance to experience them.
"... I've always looked with envy at the movie industry about what a great job they're able to do with taking content and making it work," he said. "Disney is the best example of this, right, of taking classic content and reintroducing it to audiences over time."
While no other enhanced PlayStation 3 games have been announced for PlayStation 4, The Last of Us: Remastered is slated to come out July 29.
Nintendo better step up before losing their fans to Playstation.
