Sony may know how to build great gadgets, but convincing people to part with money in exchange for them has turned out to be nearly impossible. In the outfit's most recent financial results, its faltering mobile division was single-handedly responsible for wiping out the blockbuster profits earned by the PlayStation 4. At a recent investor conference, however, executive Hiroki Totoki told the audience that the company has a new three-year plan designed to staunch these losses. In fact, the plan can be summed up pretty simply as "make a lot fewer TVs and smartphones."
According to Reuters, the plan is a response to more lowered forecasts predicting that Sony Mobile will make a loss of around $1.7 billion by next March. The (new) new strategy will see the company abandon plans to compete with rivals in the market share stakes and concentrate on a smaller clutch of devices that turn a profit even if sales were to stop by 30 percent.

This is a good idea for Sony to make fewer TVs, and Smartphone, and make more Playstations. I didn't know that Sony made a lot of TVs, and Smartphones since I rarely see newer Sony TVs in stores, or people using Sony Smartphones outside.
A lot of people play games on Playstation 3, and 4, so making more Playstion consoles, and games is a good idea.
I think selling TVs thesedays can be pretty hard since there are so many companies like LG, Samsung, Vzio, RCA, Proscan, etc which sell TVs for lower prices. People hold onto their TVs for many years, or until they break which can be over 10+ years. Plus, there are now a lot of websites like iFixit and YouTube TV repair videos which teaches people how to fix, and maintain their TV, so more people may end up using their older TV for 15+ years like computers because they know how to fix TVs with replacement parts.
It is also difficult to convince smartphone buyers to buy your smartphone when most people just either get an iPhone, Samsung, LG, Motorola, or more affordable smartphone makers like Xiaomi, OnePlusOne, and Lenovo which have similar, or better performing smartphone which cost less.
