The anime streaming service Crunchyroll announced on Wednesday that Sony's Funimation Global Group will acquire Crunchyroll. Funimation's website also confirmed the acquisition. Sony reports that the purchase price is US$1.175 billion, to be paid in cash at closing. None of the companies have provided any further details about the acquisition, and the deal is still awaiting regulatory approvals and other conditions.

In the announcement, Crunchyroll also noted that it now has 3 million subscribers and 90 million registered users.

Oh wow...that's news to me...a big one at that.
I hope we don't see many changes now....I am sure most of the folks would side with me on this.

I hope the merge will enable good changes for Crunchyroll... still a subscriber. It's where I watch most of my anime.

People are saying this is going to lead to a lack of compition for stream/dub pick ups, which don't matter to me. As long as they get picked up.
I think people forget that most of the entertainment industry in America and Japan are owned by like 3 companies, including Sony. People are also annoyed at needing multiple subscriptions for to watch shows, sometimes for multiple seasons of the same show.

Yeah, I dont want to pay money to three different services to just watch a show. Starting to lose the meaning of cutting the cord.
