Sony's X9000H series

Uhhh, what is it exactly?

they do get $$$$ at 8K, but even 4k these days are affordable.
I’m not talking about resolution, I’m talking about various HDR levels that increases the price based on how high the rating is.

The quality bump up on HDR up to a certain point does depend on the eye of the viewer, but there’s more going on than “but 4K panels are cheap”. They charge some good money for HDR10 with Dolby Vision on a full array local dimming screen.

There’s a Linus Tech Tips video going through monitors of varying HDR ratings, and there’s a price increase on each rating.

Honestly the first time I'm hearing of HDR ratings, and I was even tv hunting about six months ago.

I never knew about it until I saw that Linus video either, but I also don't really have anything that does HDR. So whatever on my end.

A lot of common electronics that you see in most people's houses also have a deeper industry catered towards different subgroups, where if you're in the know, you know about it and care about it, and nobody else knows or cares about it. Just think about all the hardware that the PC gaming community knows about that has little relevance to anyone else. Or all the PC hardware that the gaming community has zero knowledge on. You'll most likely get crickets as a response if you go to R/PCmasterrace if you go there asking about DSP accelerators.
