Space Invaders Infinity Gene has been updated – and it's now packing DLC. The update is not entirely a paid experience, though. The big freebie is a side-scrolling mode. Now, just tip your iPhone on its side and play it like a 16-bit classic blaster. Taito adjusted the layout for this mode, too, so it's not like the enemies are just floating in the same position. It now looks more like a supercool Gradius. Taito also added a new free ship: Option.
The DLC content drops three more ships into the mix, each born of yesteryear shooters such as Darius and Black Fly. Now, each ship is sold separately for $1.99. That two bucks per ship, though, gets you a pair of stages also inspired by the aforementioned classic shooters. Plus, if you buy any of the DLC, you get a freebie ship, called the Boomerang. And if you spring for all three, Taito throws in the RayStrom-inspired R-Gray2 for free. That's a lot of new ships and stages, but if you go for all three, that's almost $6.
