Square Enix is teaming up with two unlikely partners for its next DS RPG. the company announced today Cross Treasures, an original RPG that's being produced with the support of monthly comic magazine V Jump and... its readers.
Starting in June of this year, V Jump, a monthly sister publication to the massively popular Weekly Shounen Jump, began taking game ideas from its readers. Square Enix is using these ideas to help create the new game.
The Jump connection also comes to play with the game's character designer. Illustrator Shinya Suzuki is doing the honors here. Suzuki's Mr.Fullswing manga is currently running in Weekly Shounen Jump.
Aside from the announcement, Square Enix provided only a few details on Cross Treasures today. The game promises customized characters, a simple action-based combat system, and support for four player cooperative play. Players will be able to actually create their own worlds, then link the worlds together to create a large setting for their adventure.
Single player support will also be included. Solo players can look forward to a full story like that of a standard RPG.
Cross Treasures will hit Japan some time this year. Check out the first media in our image gallery.
