The Knights of the Old Republic remake has been paused indefinitely, according to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier’s sources. Reportedly, the KOTOR remake developer Aspyr Media fired the game’s art director Jason Minor and design director Brad Prince unexpectedly, and a series of meetings held by Aspyr throughout July revealed the project was on pause. How and why were not specified. In the meantime, Aspyr is looking for new contracts and development opportunities.

Bloomberg’s sources also revealed that Aspyr finalized a demo of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake to show to Lucasfilm and Sony on June 30. The developers were allegedly excited with the game thus far and felt like they were on track for its development, but apparently, this demo was not well-received. Aspyr studio heads are said to have told staff the demo isn’t where they need to be. One of the sources also indicated that time and money were the primary issues, as the game’s development cycle was said to be unsustainable.

It seems that Aspyr had originally told Lucasfilm, Sony, and its staff that the game would be released by the end of this year, but now a new target would be 2025.

Shame. I'm sure it would've been great, but people need to know that firing actual people, costs real money. Maybe they paid them too much and the replacement was to get an easy profit. However it went, I really don't feel bad about never trying this game.
