Valve is currently accepting beta testers for "Steam Trading," a new feature that will allow users to trade in-game items, Steam gifts, and extra copies with other users.
Right now, only Team Fortress 2 in-game items and games bought as gifts can be traded in the beta, although Valve says that trading should work with Portal 2 "reasonably soon" and that it is working with other game developers to incorporate trading in their titles.
Since Team Fortress 2 already has trading, Valve says it is working to cut down on confusion and deceptive practices from other players. "We’ve improved the display of changing which items are in the trade, and significantly increased the number of items that can be traded in one session."
Valve says that Steam Trading is not meant to be a platform for selling used games, and gifted games that have been opened and added to the game library will not be eligible for trade.
