In an interview with MCV, SCEE President Andrew House commented on the price drop issue and his thoughts on Sony's stance moving forward. House notes: "the device has a 10 year lifecycle and [...] there are issues of cost and profitability. We will make that move on price when all those factors are aligned."

It seems that for eager PlayStation enthusiasts that are trying to save up for the big plunge, these factors are not aligned yet. "Would people buy more when they are cheaper? Of course," continues House. "But on the other hand there is an inherent marketing challenge. In Europe I think people do see the value of the machine, the Blu-ray and network services and take that all into consideration instead of just focusing on price. But we will look at price and will address it when the time is right."

From the sound of House's comments, Sony is obviously aware of the demand, but some greater force is at work preventing them from dropping the price. Perhaps that force is the European market, which apparently doesn't mind paying the extra cash.

We contacted representatives from Sony's US offices but did not receive an official comment. We'll just have to hope that US gamers without a PS3 will get better luck in the coming months.

dammit people, stop paying for that outrageous price.

It is a good price for people who can afford the PS3, but a bad price for people are poor.

If you want a Blu-Ray player, you can get one for around $200+ or less, and get an Xbox 360 premium or Wii for 299 .

If you add it up the cost of a low-end Blu-ray player and wii or 360, It will cost 499 which is 100 miore then the 80 GB version of the PS3 and the same price of the 160GB version of the PS3.

If you buy both the Wii, and 360, It will cost just $100 more then the PS3 160GB version.

299*2=598.

Blue ray is worthless in my mind, just movies cost more, and i fine with HD, pretty much the same when i see the two, i really dont care if the price goes down, it still wont make me buy one.

I'm not that into HD, too. I'm just happy if the picture is not blurry, pixelated, or ugly looking.

I think that having a greater selection of fun games for a console is what is most important to most gamers.
