-Super Mario 3D Land-
Review by Moclon
Super Mario 3D Land is one of the greatest games for it's system, it's a must buy for any Mario fan, and it's gorgeous graphics will blow your mind.Graphics: 9.5/10
The 3DS isn't as capable as it's rival, the PS Vita, but still, it manages to bring some truly unique and gorgeous graphics, and Super Mario Land 3D is truly a proof for that.
This isn't the type of graphics that will completely make you want to play it just to watch the nice artwork, after all, it is a Mario game, but when you turn the 3D effect on, everything just pops out of it's place like it really should.
Speaking of the 3D effect, this might be the one and only game for the 3DS that uses the 3D as a game mechanic to solve puzzles, and not just make it look unique.
Of course, I must admit, when you turn the 3D effect off, the graphics might look somewhat pixelated and shabby, but hey, the point of the game is to play it in 3D, right?
Gameplay: 10/10
If you ask someone, doesn't matter who, what "Mario" is, he will be able to tell you, whether he likes it or not.
Mario is the same Italian plumber we all know and love since 1981, but wait, how come we all know what Mario is?
The series is known for it's great platforming, it's unique gameplay, and several power-ups to collect along the way to save Princess Peach.
Super Mario 3D Land Is a fairly basic game, catering to both long time fans, and also newcomers, how does it do that? Lets see:
In Super Mario 3D Land, you must reach the top of the flag pole that's located at the end of the level, while collecting as many coins and stars as you can, without dying.
If you're a long time fan to the series, you will obviously want to explore every nook and cranny there is in every unique level,
Although newcomers can skip them, and use the easier way out of the 2 possible methods to reach the top of the flag pole.
Overall, the game caters to both newcomers and long time fans, it's great platforming will keep you entertained during all of the time you will play it, and it's definitely perfect from every perspective you can look at it from.
Replay Value, Extras, Details: 8/10
The game is fairly short, lasting around 12~ hours mostly, and there isn't a big reason to play it again after completing all worlds, unless you're just a big fan of Mario, or don't care about repetitiveness, basically: You play it once, you play it one more time in case you didn't collect all bonuses, and that's it, although it does have the option to play the game again as Luigi, but it's a minor thing that doesn't change anything too much.
Super Mario 3D Land Makes a use out of Streetpass, but that's just something nice you like seeing every now and then, it also makes a use of the touch screen, by allowing you to keep 1 Power-Up of your choice for a later occasion.
The game doesn't seem to have many glitches, and plays just like the developer wanted it to play.
Also, the use of Gyroscope really messes up the 3D effect, but it's a nice addition if you like playing in 2D.
It's also worth mentioning that the soundtracks in the game are mostly remakes from other Mario games, which is a bit boring and repetitive if you already heard them before.
Final words
This portable Mario experience might only last 10 hours, but those 10 hours will be filled with excitement and joy traveling trough many differently themed levels in an amazing 3D effect.
Too bad that the repetitive soundtrack and no replay value is stopping this game from being perfect.
Super Mario Land 3D Gets a:
8.5/10
