From the interview with Sakurai:

First of all, it seems the two versions will be very different. With the 3DS version, he says he might have to make the game simpler than Brawl or the WiiU version. While for the WiiU version, we might get an ultra fancy, packed full of detail Smash Bros with 50 characters or twice as many stages as Brawl, as well as more background detail.
3DS one will be more personalised. Only tracks a single person's stats, in more detail.
System of rewards to customise your character with in the 3DS version. Presumably, like the stickers did for Subspace Emissary, except in more detail.
Iwata said 'you can never have too much Smash Bros'. Sakurai doesn't remember his response, but Iwata said Sakurai said you could.
Me? I personally agree with Iwata. Bring on more Smash Bros!
3DS version will have 'ways' to help beginner players. Sounds a tad ominous.
Going to ask more people for help balancing the characters this time around, to avoid the competitive scene with only two or three good characters Melee and Brawl had.
Doesn't want characters to feel the same.
3DS version will be designed to work with the console's smaller screen.
Different teams likely for each version.
Sakurai had no direct involvement with Sonic or (surprisingly) Link's implementation in Brawl. Hang on though, who did for the latter? Aonuma?
Iwata says some designers enjoy cutscenes.
Sakurai more hands on with these games than he was with Brawl.
Sakurai makes sure each Smash Bros game has a different fun 'twist' to it.
Iwata says the project is expensive.
So, thoughts on this?
