Take-Two yesterday settled the four-year-old class-action lawsuit for a cool $20.1 million. The company will pay $4.9 million of it, while its insurance carrier will take care of the rest.

You might recall that this whole mess started after crafty hackers discovered a hidden sex mini-game buried in the retail code of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. As a result, the game was given an Adults-Only rating, there was mass hysteria in the streets as civilization crumbled down around us, and a bunch of offended individuals decided to bring suit against Rockstar (because hooking up with prostitutes and then beating them to death with a sex toy is one thing, but avatar’s getting it on is just going too far).

Take-Two chairman, Strauss Zelnick, said in a statement, “We are pleased to have reached this settlement, which represents another important step forward for the Company.â€￾

Take-Two clearly never had a shot of winning this case, and a settlement was always going to be the way out, so I guess the company was just waiting for the price to come down to a suitable enough point before pulling the trigger. And so they say, “This is the way the ‘Hot Coffee’ era ends. Not with a bang but an out of court settlement.â€￾
