According to a tiny blurb in the latest issue of Kinema Junpo -- perhaps best described as a Japanese Cahiers du cinéma -- Bandai Namco's Xbox 360 RPG Tales of Vesperia is being adapted for the big screen.
To be released some time this year, Tales of Vesperia the animated film will be helmed by Kanta Kamei, a prolific key animator making his directorial debut. Other information to be found in the blurb was limited to the film's studio (Kadokawa Pictures) and lead voice actor (Kosuke Toriumi, who portrayed hero Yuri in the original game).
Although not the series' first animated outing (Phantasia, Eternia, Symphonia and Abyss have all been adapted into television and/or video anime), Vesperia will be the first in theaters. Given the game's status as the worst-selling -- but arguably most-loved -- "mothership" Tales in history, one has to wonder if the film isn't being designed to cross-promote something. A PlayStation 3 version, perhaps?
