The $4 smartphone

I know, it seems pretty crazy, right? Back in February this year the cheapest smartphone in the world was announced, Freedom 251. You're probably thinking that this phone is trash, but the specs will tell you otherwise: 1,8k mAh battery, 4 inch screen, 8 mp camera, 1GB of RAM and a 1.3 ghz processor.
This phone will probably seem underwhelming if you're used to flagship performances, but I'm sure you can do a lot of things with it at this price.
I'm wondering how they can achieve this with only $4 and still make a profit, even the outercasing is worth more than that.

This is one cheap phone. But, I feel the screen size is too small to use for online video, texting long texts, and gaming. I rather have a smaller battery, 512MB of RAM, and a slightly slower CPU, and lower quality camera than such a small screen.

Wounding if it last a day! :P to cheap to me.

Rather spend a decent phone

Makes me feel bad for my $$$ smartphone.

If it ever ships outside India I might snag a few of those phones. I need to replace my secondary phone (Moto G 1st gen) which has died on me.

It turned out to be a scam. Firstly, they sent the media demo models which were actually completely different to the phones from the pictures, they were thick, bulky, cheap devices that looked identical to an iphone in the hardware and software department and what made it pathetic is that they were actually made by a different, legitimate manufacturer and all they did was pour white ink over the branding. The company did not ever release a single phone after that. The entire thing was a big scam.

Its rather foolish to think that this would even be possible, unless the parts were stolen and put together by slaves, its beyond logical. Even the lowest of low end devices featuring similar specs cannot stoop down so low, its simply not possible. Just consider the costs, even if you do employ little Indian boys and pay them in bottlecaps, you still need to buy a factory and machinery, the parts, shipment, taxes and you would obviously have to pay the CEO and all the other higher up employers in the company.

Well... yeah. It's a phone, not a full-fledged computer or a gaming console. I have iPhone 5 (4") and it's a perfectly sized phone, and when I need to actually write something a touchscreen device is the last thing I want to do that on, and for movies I'm not willing to sacrifice the experience and settle for a screen less than 42" anyway.

But yeah, they can't be making profit on that one, and like all the other "cheapest phones in the world" before it, it's just a marketing move.

The freedom phone is just a bogus thing. They bought a good smartphone and tried to promote their own brand. I have heard a lot about it and I was really surprised at the outcome.
