QUOTE Five-tails's concept is a gorilla and it remembers the monster ape into which Songoku from Dragon Ball turnes to. His horns are based on the forehead "tiara" (bracelet? I don't know how to call it) used by the Songoku from the chinese legend. Apparently the bijuu spits lava.
Seven-tails is an insect rebembering a foreingn armor (like european armor, I think). Kishimoto further clarifies that she is a young girl (no more doubts there )
Some other things are preatty obvious, like, seven-tails' tails being wings and eight-tailes' being yummy-looking tentacles.
The bijuu - animal correspondence is something like:
ichibi - racoon dog (tanuki)
nibi - cat (neko)
sanbi - turtle (kame)
yonbi - gorilla (gorira)
gobi - beluga/dolphin and horse (iruka to uma - the author himself doesn't realy know)
rokubi - I think it isn't clear from the text, but apparently a slug
nanabi - bug (mushi)
hachibi - octopus and bull (tako to ushi)
kyuubi - ... suspese... fox (kitsune)
