The dilemma of watching an anime with an upcoming sequel

So what do you guys think?
Would you usually not pick an anime, which might get a sequel soon? Or would you be more interested in it for the same reason?
 
The only issue I would have with this would be the first season ending with a cliffhanger and having to wait a while for the next. But that's part of the fun xD

The do usually close the door on an arc proper, but in a lot of cases, they have a few extra minutes, either after the ending theme, or used to replace the ending theme, that show the beginning of the next arc. Someone dying/disappearing, a new villain showing up, a "good guy" suddenly showing his/her true colors, etc. Anything that makes the wait for the next season that much longer/harder.

To be honest, lately I haven't been watching much anime, so I haven't observed this
 
Something to make me excited, so long as it was good.
