The German government blames video game violence for a recent terrorist attack.
No stranger to scapegoating video games for everything awful under the sun, the German government is now saying video games sparked a man’s decision to execute nine people, including four children, at a shopping mall in Munich before turning the gun on himself.

A day after the shooting, German Minister of the Interior Thomas de Mazière released a statement claiming that shooter had played many video games—first-person shooters, in particular, and had “glorified” the Norwegian mass murderer, Anders Breivik. Munich police chief Hubertus Andrae then claimed without evidence that the shooter had an “obvious link” to Breivik.

What do you think?

Meh, just officials quickly pointing something out instead of the real issues.

I think the government is just blaming video games, so they don't need to blame themselves for failing to protect the victims who died in the shooting by catching the shooter sooner, or stopping a gun from getting into the hands of a crazy shooter who wanted to kill people with the gun he got.

The y first need to fix there issues b4 pointing fingers but i will say that i do think they play a part with the stupidity that's being done. These dummy's try to act out what they see in the games. I can't remember the year but remember that nit wit who said he was acting out the game.

Then the problem is in the dummy's head, not the video games. You've got people doing stunts they watched in movies, but nowadays it sounds silly to blame the whole cinematography industry for it.

This is just someone deciding to take the lives of many innocent people. He could have been reading frigging Shakespeare and have a collection of plushies. At most, his taste can provide a window to his decayed brain. It's correlation, not causation.

That aside, once again it seems to be just the media. But sure, let's ignore he was being bullied and the disturbing opinions he let out, like giving praise to a mass murderer.

God I hate it when people say stuff like this. How about blaming... I don't know, psychological issues the terrorist may have had?

Or the bullying that happened to him in school? Oh wait, that'd make too much sense.

I think blaming psychological and bullying could make un-informed people attack innocent people with mental problems, or have been bullied in the past which may cause more violence and bullying toward individuals with mental problems, or were bullied in the past.

Most people who have mental problems and were bullied in the past don't harm innocent people.

I think it is mostly the governments fault for making it possible for people with twisted fantasies of killing innocent people easily get a gun. It is also sad that the people around him like his parents, teachers, neighbors, and friends were not paying attention or cared enough about him where this guy could of gotten help he needed or sent to a mental hospital before he hurt other innocent people with his gun.

It's crap and crazy really. For crying out loud that it's Germany that started WWII anyway and they have murdered more people that are in prison then antithesis. Government around the world are crap and people believe in them to much and they get away with things. And they don't care since they earn so much money that it will take an normal person half of there lifetime

I don't believe in blaming video games for any violence that occurs in the world. If video games make you want to do violent things in real life, I think you are already a violent person to begin with. There are some people out there that can't separate fiction from reality for whatever reason.
