Reveal trailer:

The animation is incredibly better than what I had hoped, which is always a welcoming surprise.

Wonder if Rean is going to be in the anime.

rean is in it, new trailer:

This series has such a forgettable plot I can't understand why people praise it's world building so much. It's ridiculously big but with an inch of depth. The pc port has a fast forward button which I used liberally when they got to the dialogue and the cutscenes. Amazing feature.

I think it’s because a lot of people are used to either stuff like Final Fantasy, where there is no continuity, or Zelda where it’s they are tied together, but almost like flavor text to tie them together. You then couple that with a combination of overzealous fans overselling the depth, with people who are a bit too anal over what constitutes as a spoiler.

There’s definitely a ton of goobers who are convinced Cold Steel is completely incomprehensible unless you play the 5 previous Trails games, and others who go “well you play Zero up to this chapter, STOP, then hop to Cold Steel to this chapter, STOP, then swap back to Zero, etc”.

It then makes it really unappealing for people, because all they see are people over-exaggerating this franchise and makes it seem inaccessible.

I see that in plenty of other things people do for their hobbies to make it seem more impressive than it really is. It's a waste of time to listen to people with their own agenda. But I might have believed in the lie that the game has a great over arching story if I didn't play till CS4, and by that time I saw multiple plot points begin in those 4 games that ended with the same old ass pulling, power of friendship and "magic" that I was sure I was not missing much.
But people really should play the previous games before CS3. I will get started on that someday.

Usually if it's something that's not normie tier popular, the fans always overexagarrate it to death. I love the band Radiohead to death, and while their music is experimental, their fans make it sound like it's super deep and boundary pushing, when it realy isn't. The same goes for the band Tool and how "technical" they are, when it's basically intro to music theory. It's super technical when you repeat the same riff for half the song.

I remember when Ys 9 came out, and people were bitching that they spoiled the plot to Ys 6 in the game. They got upset that they mentioned that Adol (the MC in every Ys game) found the Ark of Napishtim. Shocker, the main character found the Ark of Napishtim in the game called... the Ark of Napishtim...

I enjoyed it, the game series does tend to drag out at times, but you got to admire a group actually taking several games to explore a whole world of things to do.
