Well, I'm bored, and want to talk about Mario Tennis Open because just thinking about it makes me giddy up with joy. Whatever that means.
Anyways, in the Mario Wiki Gallery, we have 12 player images, these being:
The console games generally have all the characters so that they have double match ups as well. So from this list, here are the obvious ones:
That leaves us with... eh, Yoshi and Boo? But they aren't compatible! So that means we've got a few characters that will be announced soon prior to the game's release, or are unlockable (I'm wondering if they will announce all of the characters before it's released, or if the characters will all get "spoiled" before it comes out. Probably the latter).
Now for Yoshi, we've got either Koopa or Birdo. Birdo wasn't in Mario Power Tennis, but Birdo's been in Mario Party 9, so she's not completely forgotten. I think Birdo will come back as Yoshi's partner.
This leaves Boo's partner. I have a feeling (and darn well hope) it will be Shy Guy. Shy Guy's been in all of the games, and in Power Tennis, he became Boo's partner. Boo was Bowser's partner in the N64 version, but with the introduction of Bowser Jr, Boo got Shy Guy as his partner. So here's to hoping.
As for other characters, Koopa seems likely, and so does Paratroopa. Paratroopa's been there from the start, so I don't see why they'd scrap him.
I have a hunch that these 12 characters will be the opening characters or something. Or maybe they just haven't revealed them all. Still, there's some Mario Tennis trivia for you. I'm never a big fan of bloated conspiracy topics, but just a minor thing I noticed.
At the very least, it's guaranteed Shy Guys will appear in the game, just look at the crowd of Shy Guys on the box art. Now we wait and see if he actually plays.
On another note, with online mode, I'm wondering if Miis will be forced, or optional. I guess it wouldn't be that bad if we had to use our customised Miis when challenging others, but it is a bit of a drag too. Though a double's match with four Mario players would be kinda amusing (cue dodgy recolours).
Also, online double matches would be kinda fun, yet also frustrating. That's if they're possible and we're not just restricted to singles.
I really cannot wait for this. It's mostly the online that gets me quite excited, that should offer a lot of fun. But I also can't wait to start knocking down those tournaments and playing those special games.
