Could be a bit of a problem if what I've heard is accurate, since ice isn't exactly the best Pokemon type to use in competitive play, is it?

You know, because it's weak to rock, fighting and steel type moves. This gives it a few problematic attributes such as a weakness to stealth rock. And obviously dragon moves, meaning that Rayquaza, Garchomp, Salamence, Zekrom and Reshiram could theoretically cause a lot of damage to it.

Is this slightly worrying to anyone else? It needs really good stats to be viable now...

Defensively, it is unfortunate, but Kyurem will still become an offensive powerhouse with good type coverage. The electric/ice combo (or bolt/beam, usually in reference to Thunderbolt and Ice Beam) gives you the ability to hit most everything in the game. Due to its massive base 130 special attack, you can give it a Choice Scarf and it will KO most anything that comes against it.

Otherwise, you can give it a Life Orb, train for max speed, and unleash your electric and ice attacks while keeping Outrage (base 130 attack too!) for your final option. His speed is not great at all, but he can still do fairly well when threats are taken out.

I don't know how they will alter the stats with the new forms, but Kyurem will likely become much more popular in the new games.

I wouldn't use legendaries in my team anyways...
