Apple is widely expected to introduce an overhauled version of the Apple TV next month, and one of the big changes is supposed to be in how you control it. Already we've heard reports about a new remote with a touchpad and microphone, but now TechCrunch is reporting that it will do even more: the remote will supposedly be motion sensitive. The remote is said to likely include sensors that track it as it moves in multiple directions, allowing it to detect motion about as well as the Wii Remote. The Wii Remote also relies on an IR sensor, but it isn't stated whether this remote will require a similar accessory or work on its own.

I wonder would the remote will be used for gaming.

Jeez, I thought this craze was dying out finally?

At least, there is a remote unlike motion control like the Xbox Kinect which never became hugely popular because you need to buy the expensive Kinect camera, and need to wave your hands to use it.

I wonder would the Apple TV remote bring back the motion remote craze, and we will soon see motion remotes on other settop boxes like the Roku, Chromecast, and Smart TV.

I read a blog post that Apple TV will have more Gaming Features, so Apple TV may get a lot of re-makes of Nintendo Wii, Wii U, and Microsoft Kinect games from game companies who already made motion games, but the games are not selling as great on the Wii, Wii U, and Kinect because the motion gaming craze is less popular.

Apple TV may also get original and exclusive games for Apple TV if there are enough Apple TV Gamers on the platform.

I agree the Apple TV is something to keep an eye on because it has millions of users, so game companies may release a lot of 3rd-party games for it to try to get a lot of buyers for their games.

Apple has a lot of fans who are overly loyal to whatever Apple makes, so there could be a lot of Apple fans who buy games for the Apple TV. I read online that the Apple Watch is now one of the most popular wearable tech products compared to other wearable tech products.

watched this today:

Which they make a very good point that it seems Apple is taking a step back with this whole thing which I kind of agree on. The wii ship has sailed and there isn't anything left of it for companies to profit on. Apple could be taking a major risk on this one.

I agree Apple is taking a risk, but I think Apple's old Apple TV are not selling so well because of cheaper alternatives like the Chromecast, and Roku, Fire TV, and more expensive alternatives like game consoles which can now be used to watch Internet video, and video files on a TV.

Apple probably decided to make the Apple TV a console, so users can use for playing games like Final Fantasy games, and emulated games, and also used the Apple TV for using apps, watching internet video, and video files on it like current Apple TVs.

Apple may also convince people to buy the new Apple TV by having exclusive Apple TV shows, and videos which are not available on Netflix, YouTube, and Hulu.

I agree good games would moves units.

Making current iOS games for iPhone/iPad like ported iOS Final Fantasy games be playable on the new Apple TV would also move units since I think many SquareEnix, and other traditional console games on iOS like Tomb Raider, Crazy Taxi, and shooter games are more fun on a TV with a gamepad controller. Gamers also want to play the games which they already own on the platform instead of re-buying the games when a new console or device comes out,
