In a very sad announcement, Sony has revealed they are closing down their official PlayStation Forums. Leaving no solid way to get PlayStation help from fellow players.

This is surprising and sad that Sony will close their Playstation forum.

I wonder if Sony is closing their forum because of money problems since running a huge website can be very expensive like how Yahoo and Aol had to sell itself to Verizon because of money problems.

Reminds me of when Nintendo closed down the official forums on their site (the Nsider ones). Sucked then, and sucks now too.

Huh, never knew they had one.

Hosting a rather large site is expensive in hosting fees alone. Plus I'm sure they had to pay for their admin/mod staff.

Be awesome if we could direct the traffic over to here.

I feel more Sony Playstation gamers now use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for talking about Playstation, so Sony may of decided to close down its forum because of less new members per month, and less activity from old members.

The expense of running a forum may not be worth it for Sony if fewer people are using the forum these days.

It's still a cost eating the bottom line though and these days it seems Sony is looking to cut costs to endure the launch of the PS5.

Sony probably can keep forum up by raising the price of PSN Plus a dollars per user to help pay for the forum, and not lose money. Some users may feel paying an extra dollar maybe worth it for being able to post on the forum, so users may cause more people to subscribe to PSN.

I think spammers, trolls, and other unwanted user bahavior like racist users posting bullying posts may of cause Sony to shutdown the forum because hateful posts can make the Playstation brand look unfriendly to less tech savvy families and kids who may feel it is a Sony workers who is posting unfriendly posts on the forum rather than a member of Playstaion forum.

From what it looked like, the user activity was going downhill, and a bunch of users felt like they were getting run off and found other communities. So they’re probably shutting it down because it became a ghost town.

I feel a lot of Playstation members may of created their own fanmade Playstation and video game forum, blogs, and websites which may cause users to not spend as much time on the official Playstation forum which may not be as fun, or useful than fanmade forums dedicated to Playstation and video games sort of like how a lot of people go visit gaming blogs to read reviews instead of going on the official game site to see if a game is good or not.
