U.S. cinema chain AMC Theatres announced on Tuesday that its theaters will remain open despite the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, and despite other chains — such as Cineworld and Regal — temporarily reclosing.

The theater chain Cinemark announced on Monday that it will also remain open. AMC, Regal, and Cinemark are the #1, #2, and #3 largest theater chains in the United States, while Cineworld is the largest theater chain in the United Kingdom and second largest in the world (when combined with Regal and other national brands it owns).

AMC CEO and president Adam Aron said that the company takes "great comfort" in theatergoers going to the theater, which he claimed was due to the company's "AMC Safe & Clean protocols."

This is sad news for movie theater fans. Hopefully, movie theaters can quickly safely re-open after the Coronavirus cases become lower in their area.

Same in the UK one of the cinemas are closed since there are no films being made. So they are closed, as for other cinema's they are only open on weekends now. That's 5K jobs lost or just out for now.

FIlms and whatnot this year are bad, not being made not being showcased at all. The new James bond film is delayed till 2022 now

man. what a bummer... over here in Utah, there are a bunch of people mad that the theaters are not open. What can you do? just wait it out I guess... almost everyone here does not wear a mask, even when asked to... its like some of them want to make a scene each time.

I don't know why they are mad, just watch it at home.

I believe that's a good decision
I hope that could help us stop the spreading of this virus

I feel temporarily closing movie theatures can slowdown the spread of the virus,

Hopefully, people who regularly go to movie theatures won't do other risky activities for getting the Coronavirus like going to a crowded party in a small room with a lot of food like potato chips and pop corn which you eat with your hands.

It does and it will help but at the same time, it will make them go out of business. UK Theaters aren't doing it to keep the virus low, they do it since they are paying their staff for working there hours and yet they making nothing from it and that the fact that there are no new films to air.

We have a chain called Cineworld in the UK and they are closing for a few months because the new Bond film was delayed. I have no idea how some of these businesses are going to survive being closed!

It is sad to see theatures struggling and no new films to air. Hopefully, most of the theatres can survive, so people can still watch new films in theatres.

Yes that's right.
Over here, folks are not at all following the new normal rules. I am rather worried about that.

It is unfortunate people are not social distancing, and put themselves at greater risk of getting the Coronavirus. I hope people follow social distancing rules, so there will hopefully be fewer new Coronavirus cases.

I agree with that
Fewer cases indicate that everyone who doesn't care about their safety, are already infected by COVID. Just kidding xD

Most have a good setup in their homes nowadays. That made Theaters not as big before the Covid

This is true a lot of people have good home theater setups, so they may not go to the movies as often.

There may still be many people who want to go to the theater because they do not want to spend a lot of money on a big screen tv, Blu-ray player, Blu-ray movies, and surround sound speakers which take up a lot of space. The theater is an affordable way to watch a movie on a large screen, and experience a movie's audio in surround sound.
