Oh my God, Are You kidding me? Sorry, I couldn't resist.. I saw the video and you guys make it seem like the guy did it for shits and giggles. I can clearly see that the plow is having trouble on the snow. The fresh, soft snow likely got caught on the treads of the wheels and caused them to lose traction. I am guessing that that is why there was a chain linking the two vehicles and why it was still moving while being pulled. I know how bad it was that day because my area in South Brooklyn, was the second hardest hit area of NYC and shut down for 2 days. Staten Island got 29" of snow while my area got 24".

There was a bus that was disabled for the same reason on the street outside of my house. I also saw the plows, sanitation trucks and other cars struggling with it when I helped my husband to shovel his car. The snow was in the tire treads and all they did was spin on the surface of the snow like they would have if they were stuck in mud. I was slip sliding on it when I was out there in my sneakers, for the same reason. I don't have boots as it is rare that we get hit this hard with snow, and so it doesn't make much sense for me to have them.

Honestly, yeah, the Sanitation workers could have done a better job or at least, approached it a bit differently, they might have made things easier for themselves had they have had chains on the tires or something, But they did what they could with what they had, and I wouldn't go as far to say that that makes them idiots, and anyone who thinks that they are should put up or shut up. The guy who filmed it seemed like he had all the answers what with the "OMG's" and the "Are You Kidding Me's" yet, he sat his stupid, obnoxious, loud ass in the window talking shit.

If you think you can handle that situation so much better, then by all means, feel free to do so, otherwise, shut the fuck up. What you can see from your window, and your computer screen does NOT compare to actually being out there and IN it. It is easy to make comments and judgments about a situation when you are NOT out there IN it. Besides, the city has agreed to pay for it anyway, so it isn't as if the owner of the Expedition wouldn't have been reimbursed, this douche isn't the owner of said vehicle so what's the problem? I can guarantee you that if he were the owner of that SUV, and tried to move the car and were unable to then he would have been singing a different tune.

Driving in snow is not very easy since it can be very slippery. Plus, if the snow melted there can be a layer of ice which makes tires even more slippery.

I completely understand that getting something like that out of that snow could be hard as I have gotten stuck in snow before and tried to pull out. but when you are running over someone one's vehicle you do not continue, you stop! no ifs ands or buts about it.

I understand what you are saying but my thing is that they may not have been able to. Judging from that guy's accent, I would say that he is from Staten Island, it sounds different from the Brooklyn accent and based on that assumption, Staten Island is a lot more hilly, than the other boroughs, that said, they may have been working against gravity in addition to no traction even if there was a slight incline in the road.

Honestly, they would have been better off trying to pull it from the other way after having gotten a Sanitation truck, you know, those big as white trucks, with a shovel attached to the end of it to plow that street, so that the tow truck could pull the other plow out the other way.. or they could have just left it where it was originally.

Also, while I agree with what you are saying, there is also the possibility that they may not have been able to stop. You could see that the plow was still slipping as it was being pulled. The streets by me are as straight as can be barring a few bumps and perhaps a few new potholes leftover from the blizzard.

The bottom line here is that, the city has agreed to fully reimburse the owner of the vehicle. Once it was determined that the vehicle would be covered, that should have been the end of it right then and there. Even still, it isn't as if they'd be able to get away from it considering the video has gone viral.. whichever the case, the over-reaction to this mistake was unnecessary. If that guy, much like a lot of the viewers of the video were out there in it, and not so much of an armchair critic, then who knows, they may have had a change in perspective.

Around here, if someone sees that a person's car is stuck, and the owner is behind the wheel and trying to move it, then the neighbors or even pedestrians passing by will help that person by pushing on the back of their car, while the other is still behind the wheel. They don't just sit on their asses and yell obscenities from the window trying to act like a tough guy.

If he really wanted to do something he could have gone downstairs and recorded the plate numbers of the tow truck and plow as well as the companies (if they were in Staten Island, then the tow and plow may have been from private companies since many parts of the island were immobilized, and people were complaining that there wasn't any Sanitation trucks plowing their streets) they came from and then given it to the owner of the vehicle if they went downstairs, or he could have cleared the windshield and simply left a note with his number taped to it. He could have done that in addition to recording it on video.. so that the owner would have had all the proof they needed.

It's good of the city to pay back the owner but the point is, they destroyed their vehicle and could leave the owner very inconvenienced. My point is, the people pulling that truck out is complete morons. they didn't have someone out there watching how the machine was being pulled out and they should have waited until the street was plowed.

I'm just wondering if the people who did this still have a job?

I'm sure they do I mean it was an accident after all.. and not done on purpose.. and hopefully they'll learn from this since it seems that we have yet ANOTHER winter storm headed for us..

And if the plows had come along then the drivers would have been more inconvenienced because the plows would have ended up pushing the snow from down the street and up against the sides of the cars and burying them as they drive down the road.

Those drivers would not have been going anywhere unless they went on foot, which is what a lot of them did in S.I. as well as my part of Brooklyn.. so even if this hadn't occurred, the owners of the vehicles would have still been inconvenienced.

Where I live when there is street cleaning, or plowing, the news tell people to park their cars in their driveways, garage, or in an area which won't be cleaned or plowed. If they disobey, their cars are towed.

They do that here as well and sometime it really isn't an option. I mean I live in an apartment building and while there is SOME designated parking, it is on the other side of the complex, so you'd really be better off parking on the street. The problem with that is, is that this occurred the day after Christmas, when those visiting family members who lived here and in the residential area across the street, were parked as well.

The 2 cars that were in front of my husband's car when it was on the corner had been there for more than a week, and they were buried almost to the roof from the snow plows driving down the street, and further up the block there were cars, double parked on the outside of the cars that were buried in the snow from the plows and this was all happening on a 2 lane street.

It was crazy.
