A shift in leadership is now upon the tablet mobile computing market. At the year’s mid-point, market intelligence firm ABI Research identified a trio of events signaling Apple’s iPad family of products has passed the baton to the Android ecosystem. During the second quarter of 2013, the number of Android-powered tablets surpassed iOS-based slates for the first time, tablet-related hardware revenues reached parity, and perhaps most important, the average selling price (ASP) of iPad is rapidly approaching the market average.

I think the main reason for Google Android being the most popular tablet operating system right now is because Google Android tablets cost less because you can buy a good Google Android tablet for under $100, and Android has a lot of free and paid apps like iOS, so people picking Android would have most of the apps which are available on iOS.

A lot of people are also using their Google Android tablets as cheap netbook laptops when they connect them to a USB keyboard, or wireless keyboard which can increase the number of Android tablets from people who previously used Windows, but switch to Android for its cheaper price.

Plus, the Amazon Kindle Fire tablets which run on a modified version of Android is one of the best selling tablets in the US, and other countries.

Why? Because Apple products are expensive so most people are smart and buy other products. My two cents.

I agree Android is more affordable, and there is also more selection like 4 to 7 inch, and 10 inch and bigger Android tablets instead of being stuck with only two sizes like the iPad which only has a 8 inch Ipad Mini or 9 inch iPad 2-4.

There are also special edition Android tablets like the Archos Gamepad which also convince people who don't plan on geting an Android tablet to buy a tablet like the Archos Gamepad for emulating older games from older consoles, and playing Android games like Dead Trigger which support physical controllers on the Archos Gamepad.

I think different size tablets, and special edition Android tablets would convince many people even iPad owners to get an Android tablet for cool features, and the convenience of carrying around a smaller 4-7 inch tablet in your pocket, or the better viewing experience of a tablet bigger than 10 inches.
