There May Be PS4 Shortages!

"Sony Corp is raising internal sales projections for the forthcoming PlayStation 4 videogame console amid positive signs about demand for the device,” according to the WSJ.

Unfortunately for those that didn’t pre-order early, however, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House admitted that “demand may well outstrip supply.” GameStop echoed this “sentiment” to the Wall Street Journal."

Ya I am not surprised. Microsoft just dropped the bomb with the Xbox One and their announcements at E3 only seemed to make things worse for them. There will still be plenty of people buying Xbox One's I am sure but a large majority who were on the fence seem to have switched over to PS4. I didn't pre order one but I don't usually buy launch consoles anyway, I can wait till they work out the kinks before getting one.

Haha I love it what a marketing ploy, call me a cynic but Sony are playing out an old marketing trick of getting your customers tee'd up with the functionality and low price then dropping the "bomb" of telling them you must buy it now or else you might miss out! lol love it.

I'm not too surprised; Sony's offering this time around is shaping up to be great, while the competition is making missteps. This is coming from somebody who's done most of their gaming on Xbox the past two gens (no, I'm not a fanboy xD).

Not too surprised to tell you the truth either. I remember there were shortages for both the PS2 and PS3 when they both came out around their respected dates. I forsee the Xbox one loosing its demand as time passes from its release date because the PS4 is a superior system.

Oh, you know Sony is playing off of the hype.  Who wouldn't?  They're a corporation, after all, and if it nets them more sales, excellent.

Personally, I can wait a year or two before buying.  I haven't been in a big rush to get a gaming system immediately since the days of the PS2's release.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a ploy to increase pre-sale numbers. I really doubt they are under producing PS4's, since it will be a dominant console for the next half a decade. Say there is a potential for a shortage, and more people who are sitting on the fence for it will come over and pre-order "just incase". Clever, but I'm not too worried. I won't afford a ps4 for years to come, anyways.

This is something I anticipated would happen. I remember when the ps3 came out or was announced so many people pre-ordered it. I remember it was hard to find any of them in stock at any store. I'm guessing for the ps4 people will have an even harder time getting them in store.

I hope it's a ploy.

I don't have the money to preorder it and was hoping to get it a week or two later. Gonna be pretty bummed if theres none left for a while.

That would really suck if they ended up selling out of them right off. I'm pretty sure though, they would be prepared for certain things of this nature. I'm still not buying one right off. Most of the time you can get the system at a later date and it's cheaper than the release price.

If the report is true it's really not too surprising given what emerged from E3. That being said, this is also a common marketing ploy that's been used in nearly every industry. It's an easy way to build hype and it's a fact that can't really be challenged by anyone as their production numbers are usually kept pretty close to the belt.

I can definitely see the PS4 selling like hotcakes upon release with their super cheap price (well, $100 cheaper o_O). But yeah, perhaps this could be just a marketing ploy to increase demand!

It would be funny if Sony increased their production and what not and then Microsoft comes out with the super double whammy and miraculously gains more favour than the PS4.

If you run into this problem, just get an Xbox One instead! I'm sure there will be plenty of them stacked around, waiting to go on clearance. I think this generation of consoles is going to teach Microsoft a hard lesson. I absolutely cannot wait to see what happens when these consoles release.

Xbox One? I'd rather wait forever for a PS4 than buy one, die hard PS fan here  .
I honestly think it'll fail miserably. All the kids will be getting PS4's for christmas because it's cheaper, whereas usually all the kiddies would go for the Xbox.

I'd not be surprised either, but then again it actually looks really good if they sell out so they might not produce enough to meet demand because of that. If a console sells out, it seems far more popular to consumers, despite however many consoles are sold.

I believe that some places don't require any money to preorder.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch. IGN and all the other places reported how it was impossible to get any black Wii U pre-orders and when the release day come there was plenty to be found.
Ah yeah, I worked in a store that had the Wii U out on launch day.  It was pretty unimpressive, the amounts that sold.  Even I was a little surprised.  But I think the PS4 is getting a lot more hyped than the Wii U was for its launch.

It seems to be that the PS4 will echo the PS2, and quite frankly I haven't been this excited before to get a console like this, even though I've been a Nintendo fan my whole life. Still, I can wait awhile for to buy myself one since I didn't pre order it.

Am not surprised at all! They have bombed the E3 and completely changed the way the world has seen the new gen consoles. I hope to be able to get my hands of one :) At least that way I can see it's greatness for myself

That's really annoying, I'm not surprised either I just thought they would have learned from their mistakes with PS2 and PS3 shortages... Well, I guess not.
