There seems to be spammer who insert links on a latter date when the topic is inactive...

I been reading some old post which were on my forum a few month a go, and I notice some users/human spammers inserted links by editing their old posts, and hope no admin or mod will notice.

This is somewhat troubling since some edit and insert links on old topics which they made months or weeks a go.

If this goes on too far, I might consider disabling edits on topics to prevent people from inserting links at a later date.

I recently install a mod that stops people from posting in old topics, going to have to check out if this covers editing.

Probably not, since I can still edit my old topics on GF to insert links if I wanted to. I think they are bookmarking their old topics or using forum search for their post to post spammy links on a latter date.

it's not a big deal, spammers aren't regular members anyway, and likely wont be in the same group as a regular active member..

That said, disabling the ability to edit posts after an hour for members who never make to active member status will do the trick. Pair this with the deletion of accounts with 0 posts, after a certain amount of time and you aren't likely to have this problem.

Spammers, like to hit and run, because the more sites they spam, the more money they get paid. That said, I really don't see spammers making it into active member status just to post a link.. as it seems that with the amount of effort needed to do that, would be counter-productive on their part since they could have hit about 25-50 sites in the same amount of time.

I would never risk the relaxed environment of a forum by limiting the loyal members, just because of a few bad ones.. but that's just me..

I notice that there seem to be someone using hacked member accounts where the hacker stole a few passwords to edit and post on forums and insert links on post which were made on 2009, and re-edit them on 2011 of Feb. I decided to disable editing to 60 minutes to prevent edit spam.

I say your best bet is to make a usergroup that everyone first joins and heavily restrict it. being active enough will move you up to a group with lesser restrictions.
