As in, the next popular and fan beloved characters to return in a few more games?

Because to be honest, I can sort of see it happening. They're already the most popular new additions in Mario & Luigi Dream Team (thanks to their overly 'macho' attitude, beef related jokes and other such things)

And with both the perfect job for recurring characters (tour guides) and a level of popularity matched only by the likes of Antasma, Fawful, Popple and Bowser, they're also kind of the only 'ensemble darkhorse' left to bring back for humour sakes.

So what do you think? Are the Russian style beef obsessed tour guides the next likely 'major' recurring character in the series?

Does Nintendo pay attention to fan-loved characters? Where's ♥♪!?? Remember him? Aka Geno from Legend of the Seven Stars? He had a huge fan-base and has only ever been seen as a cameo in Superstar Saga since. And I know Square Enix owns the rights, but still, I am sure they could easily ask to borrow him again.

I think now would be the perfect time for a Mario RPG remake. OR a sequel. ^^

in 3D on the 3DS - keep the old graphics just make them 3D. I've been dying for a non-illegal copy of SMRPG portable-style!

They do pay attention (see, Fawful going from 'sidekick' to 'nobody' to 'Big Bad' in three games), but Geno's kind of in limbo.

Or in other words, Nintendo probably doesn't seem a point in bringing him back because of the legal negotiations. I mean yeah, they could sign then rights over for a Mario RPG, but unless they buy the character outright, that then just makes it so the game's near impossible to rerelease in future and might even make it doubtable whether the sales boost is worth the price paid for the rights. And for games like Smash Bros or Mario Kart (the other games that buying him back might let him star in), Geno has the problem of not quite being popular enough for the 'mainstream' crowd who buy them. I mean yeah, you could include him in Smash Bros, but who'd care? Fewer people than would care about say, Mega Man or Sonic or even a popular Nintendo character from an existing franchise like Ridley or King K Rool. So Nintendo likely doesn't add him there because they don't think all the legal costs and agreements are worth it to please the fairly few retro Mario fans in existence.

Which is a shame, because if he was owned by Nintendo, he'd probably be in at least three more Mario games by now. It's just that I suspect Nintendo seems him as too much of a costly hassle to include in a Mario RPG and too unimportant to include in a mainstream title.

"too much of a costly hassle"
I wonder how much the rights for him would actually cost. I doubt Squaresoft have any big plans for him. ...or the other Super Mario RPG characters for that matter.
