This is cheating, right?

'I secretly date people who aren’t my boyfriend - but I don’t think it’s cheating' - BBC Three

according to one recent, wide-ranging study by researchers in the Netherlands and USA, between 18% and 25% of the users swiping on one of the world’s most popular dating apps are actually in a committed relationship - a figure that jumps to 42% in the USA. We’re living in a period where our ideas of what counts as ‘commitment’ are changing.

I found this article to be really intriguing. A large number of people date other people in secret while being in a committed relationship, but they don't consider it cheating. Are they deluding themselves by changing the definition of the word "cheating" or am I old-fashioned?

This has to be satire. There can't be people stupid enough to think going on dates, and even kissing someone else, isn't considered cheating. Even flirting with other people is considered cheating. Sure, it may not be anything more than saying things, but it's mentally cheating, which is worse. You're destroying the trust of the person you love. I honestly can't stand cheaters and this whole article just pissed me off. It's even harder to watch someone who got cheated on go back to their cheater s/o as if nothing happened. Like, no you don't need them, go find someone who deserves your time and affection.

I'm with @Dark Young Link on this one.

I may be old fashioned, or whatever you call it. If you are going to be on those sites, don't be in a committed relationship with someone else while you're doing it. A relationship can't thrive if the people involved in the relationship can't trust one another to begin with.

Trust me, I've seen enough idiots, heard enough stories that I know people would use these services innocently.

The worst part is that people have different ideas what even constitutes cheating. I mean to some it doesn't matter whom you flirt with so long as you go home with your significant other. To others even looking the wrong way at them is cheating. For yet others it's the secrecy element.
There's someone I know, I'll call them Alex, who was just having sex with this other person I'll call Sam. Sam said they didn't care if they did other people too but just to be honest about it. Alex never has sex with anyone else, mostly because they were busy with work, but Sam did have sex with someone else. Alex found out because one of their friends mentioned they were sleeping with Sam. Alex asked Sam, Sam denied everything. But Alex knew they were lying because their friend had pictures of themselves with Sam in bed. Needless to say Alex was pretty pissed at the secrecy part of it.

For myself, if you're in an relationship where neither party has expressed a desire to have it open (and thusly the other has not accepted said desire), then any kind of action to initiate sex is cheating. If a relationship is classed open, non-committed, then any act of secrecy or deception then becomes cheating.

And I'd like to think that the article is a bit of satire... but I don't think so. People are incredibly stupid. For all the advancement humans have made in technology and medicine... People are dumb. Even moreso in the modern age where a wealth of information via the internet is at the fingertips. Yet so few actually bother to question or look at what they're consuming. They act without thinking and get surprised when consequences occur.

I feel most people should know secretly dating two people even with dating apps at once without telling both people is cheating. But, there are some people who may not have learned about what is cheating before starting a relationship with someone.
