What's everyone's general feeling about smartwatches like the Pebble, Sony's Open SmartWatch Project and the rumored Apple iWatch? I can't see myself using one any time soon. I'm not especially active or adventurous, but I still put my watches through hell and back, if I even wear one at all. Unless they can offer something that my smartphone can't, I'll leave all of 'em on the shelf.
Smartwatches could be useful for people who are bad at math, but don't want to carry a big calculator since most mobile OS come bundled with a Calculator app. I remember back in the past, people bought Casio watches with bult-in calculators.
Soon, the Chinese will copy Smartwatch, and sell it for the same price or cheaper than most watches made by Swatch, Timex, and Casio which will make a lot of people buy Smartwatches instead.
There are already $40 and cheaper Chinese branded Google Android tablets which you can bid, and buy on eBay, so a Smartwatch could possibly only cost $20 to sell because of a smaller screen, and most people won't be using it for more intensive apps like games, web browsing, and office work. Most people most likely use a Smartwatch as an MP3 player, watch, calculator, weather reports, and compass.
I have to agree that until they can do something current handheld technology can't, they are a bit redundant. There's a certain charm to them, but I'd only have interest if I were wealthy.
There most likely will be Smart Pocket Watches which you can hang on your Neck or carry in your pocket.
Smaller size screen devices which can use apps could be good for people who just need to use a calculator, play music, and check the weather, and read a Tweet on Twitter, but don't need to buy a more expensive bigger screen device like a Tablet, or Smartphone.
If you have wireless headphones, a Smartwatch could be good for playing Songs, and listening to internet radio since a phone, and tablet are too big, and most MP3 players need a pocket to store the MP3 player in.
As cool as it sounds, many students won't be able to keep track of time during the ACT/SAT, classes, etc. because this will cause a ban on watches in school to preempt the smartwatch craze.
Indeed, Smart watches may cause a problem with people cheating on ACT/SAT test espiecally if they have cheat sheets loaded on them.
Smart Watches might be used by students to cheat on the written exam for taking their drivers license exam at the DMV.
There is always other time keeping tools like stop watches, kitchen timers, those timers with sand in them which slowly drip to the bottom of an empty glass, and regular sized clocks which are hung from a wall.
