Thousands of websites are still hosted on Windows XP computers, despite the operating system reaching the end of its extended support period today. After today, Microsoft will stop providing automatic security updates for Windows XP, and Microsoft Security Essentials will also no longer be available for Windows XP.

It is kind of strange for a web master to pick a Windows based operating system for hosting a website when Linux based operating systems like Debian, Cent OS, and Redhat are better choices for operating systems to use for hosting web sites. Linux is generally faster, and more secure than Windows for hosting websites, and cheaper since there are many Linux web hosts like HostGator which has $3.96 a month web hosting plans.

I think during all my time moving GF around, I think there was only one host with windows OS but that wasn't XP. Right now we're on a linux server.

I hope this don't affect the website admins badly.
