Having trouble with StreetPass Quest/Find Mii 2? Not too surprising, especially given the far higher amounts of HP and defence enemies have and their nasty collection of magic spells. None the less, here are some tips to do better with less Miis and Wanderers...
1. Two Green Miis/Wanderers + Magic = Win
This is probably the most useful thing to realise. While it's unlikely you'll meet the same person enough to level their Mii to level 7 (and the potion to level up a character is fairly expensive too), two Green Miis on a team can instantly boost the next character up to level 7 with magic.
It's not perfect, since some enemies can counter this (namely the Ultimate Ghost and likely Dark Lord/Emperor with dispelling magic). But it's extremely useful for dealing with normal enemies if you don't have a bunch of 3DS owning friends to constantly StreetPass with, since about 21 damage a turn is a significant chunk to take out the healthbar of any standard monster.
2. Use team ups and combos wherever necessary
Combos always give the team double the level of the two participants + 1, so two level 2 Wanderers gives you a level 5 team.
As you may have figured out, this lets you do far more damage in each turn than fighting with each seperately, and they also have useful combo magic. For example, light blue and green magic is a more powerful form of freezing/sleep that lasts longer, orange teams can give everyone two extra turns and double poison teams can cause a form of super poison akin to the move Toxic in Pokemon that does two damage per turn. Useful.
However, two fire/water using Miis in a team should probably avoid team magic unless the enemy is weak to it, just using a combo blade attack does more damage in most cases.
3. Hire a basic Wanderer for in front of the party
Because Mummies can scare away the first character they encounter, and the final bosses use magic to cut everyone's level in half, so a basic Mii can take the hit (in the case of a mummy enemy) and use a dispelling potion (against Reapers, the Ultimate Ghost and Dark Lord/Emperor).
Useful if you want your strategy not to fall apart.
4. Use a standard Wanderer to detect deadly rooms
In certain areas, you'll need to use two of the right type of Mii or Wanderer to either get rid of poison, light up the dark room/darken a bright one, melt the ice or put out the fire before you can attack the monsters inside. However, if you don't know what rooms are what beforehand, it's quite possible to accidentally send a strong team in and completely wreck your strategy.
So hire at least one really weak Wanderer and send them into any new areas, that way you don't lose a lot of coins if there's a hazard and can hire the right allies to neutralise the threat.
5. One easy setup to destroy any tough room (and really hurt a boss character)
First, hire:
Two Miis with Green Shirts
One Mii with a Light Green Shirt/Light Blue Shirt
One Mii with a Purple Shirt
Two Miis with the same colour shirt (in addition to the above)
At least Two Wanderers
Then:
Send in two Wanderers. One is basically like a coal mine canary to get scared away by mummies, the second uses a Dispelling Draft potion.
Next, send in the Purple Mii to poison the enemy. Maybe use two if it's got a lot of health like a boss for double strength poison.
Now, send in a Light Green/Blue Mii to put to sleep/freeze the enemy. Maybe two to make it stronger if it's a boss or strong enemy.
Next up, send in two Green Miis to boost the next guy to level 7.
Then, team up the boosted Mii with another one to raise their level further (up to a max of 14).
Attack with the sword. You'll do absolutely massive damage, and if you're lucky can do over 70 or so damage in one turn. You can also use the magic to give yourself one or two extra attacks prior to using sleep/freezing magic, which could theoretically let you do over 100 damage in one attack and possibly defeat the Ultimate Ghost in just one or two turns.
6. Use Miis from second game in the first
I hear you can do this by hiring them in game 2 and then just starting/continuing the first quest. Useful, since it's very unlikely you'll get all the right Miis in game 1 right when you need them.
7. Time Travel effectively
Yes, I know people seem to hate others changing the 3DS time and date to get more coins, but it's the only real way of doing well if you live in either a rural/somewhat less young person filled area. Besides, you want to get coins for all your steps on that ten mile hike, right?
But this then raises the question of where to get the extra steps, since it's quite possible you've used your 3DS enough in the last few months to leave no empty days. Well, here's the answer.
When does the 3DS time and date setting start?
Not in 2011 when it was released.
Nope, it starts in the year 2000. Why I don't know, but hey, use it to your advantage! That's TEN YEARS and a few months of empty days to use to rack up extra play coins! And 36500 or so extra play coins can't hurt, can it?
You can also start at the other end, since again, it's very unlikely anyone will be playing a 3DS in 2050. Assuming a ten year cycle or so (very, very generous, since despite companies like Sony and their claims, no one supports a console for ten years straight), you've got another 29 or 30 years worth of play coins up for grabs that can't be used legitimately. 105000 coins can't hurt either.
Use those when you go on a long hike, climb a mountain/follow the great wall of china, go on a round the world trip or just go sightseeing in a large city, and you'll never run out of in game money again.

9. What rooms have effects
Normal Quest
Diabolical Altar - East
Dazzling white/bright room; Darken it with a black shirted Mii/hero.
Forest of Sorrow - Exit
Poison room; Get rid of poison with two yellow shirted Miis/heroes.
Castle of Darkness - Throne Room
Fire Room; Extinguish the flames with two dark blue shirted Miis/heroes
Secret Quest
Dolorous Deepwood - West
Poison room; Get rid of poison with two yellow shirted Miis/heroes.
Mount Malice - West
Fire Room; Extinguish the flames with two dark blue shirted Miis/heroes
Forest of Sorrow - Exit

Castle of Darkness - Courtyard
Frozen Room: Melt the ice with two red shirted Miis/heroes

Hopefully with these tips, StreetPass Quest/Find Mii 2 won't be a problem for anyone else, and even the toughest rooms and enemies should fall to the techniques mentioned.
