I was just reading something in "How to Win Friends and Influence People" about how people like to hear their own names. They like them so much that sometimes they'll donate millions of dollars to have museums, libraries, etc. named after them.
I actually noticed this myself, when I was a kid, and saw through it immediately, as I'm sure most people do. It's a scam, obviously, you give me money, and I’ll name stuff after you. It's sort of an embarrassment of ego that you'd have something named after you.
But, at the same time, things have to be named something. And if not named after you, then who?
But, again, do you really want to be famous? If so, there goes all of your privacy. You'll never again get to state your opinion, go out of your home without showering, date more than one person at a time, or basically do anything that doesn't live up to the impossible standards we have for celebrities.
For example, let's say you are a celebrity. Well, you think, celebrity probably has an advantage you can go to a keg party at the local college and almost certainly get laid. But, because you are a celebrity, whatever you do that night, will end up on the MySpace pages of whoever you do it with.
Back to the bright side, if people know your name, you will always get your book, movie and other projects green lighted, since your name is bankable. Green lights equals money. Money = freedom. Freedom is supposedly what all people want. So...
Ultimately, I vote against celebrity. Seems like a hassle. There are other ways to get what you want/need out of life besides pimping your good name.
