tool bars

For those of you who keep a track of topics in the welcome/bye forum and on my short lived good bye topic, I recently lost everything minor on my last computer (since I got a brand new tower) and I had to reinstall everything at once (virus/spyware protection, Java, adobe, media player and codec, ect.). When I was reinstalling everything at once there was one thing that kept popping up over and over again, "Would you like to *insert product name and search engine name here* tool bar?"

Really now, why would this be asked over and over again? Are tool bars really that popular and do people really have more then a few?

Everytime someone uses the toolbar to search or clicks on an "sponsor link" from the results from the toolbar the freeware companies get money usually around $ 0.50 - 1.00 or more depending on the search term.

I am the same, I get these all the time when re installing programs, I usually ignore them and don't bother with them. They can be so annoying!

Indeed, Google makes a large percentage of their earinings from Advertising, but I think most of the Toolbars from freeware software companies are from Yahoo.com, Ask.com, and other search sites when I download freeware.
