After about eight years of loyal service, the Nintendo DS will bid farewell in the coming months. Indeed, released in April, Nintendo's financial report of the fiscal year of 2013 announced that the Nintendo DS will no longer be produced. This discontinuation can make room for the latest handheld console from the Japanese manufacturer, the 3DS.

The report also highlights that the Nintendo DS has sold 153.87 million units since its launch. This is the best-selling handheld console in the world, even rivalling with the best seller in terms of consoles, the PS2, which boasts a little more than 155 million copies sold.

Released for the first time in November 2004 in Japan, the Nintendo DS has proven to be an excellent portable console which was a huge commercial success and is one of the greatest achievements of the company, thanks to strong licenses.

Lets go over what can be considered as the Top 5 Nintendo DS Games.

5. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is an action/adventure game released on the DS in 2007. As usual, players take the role of the indispensable Link in a story that takes place directly after that of Zelda: The Wind Waker, an audacious title that was released on the Gamecube and divided the opinion of fans. Tetra, your accomplice, is kidnapped by a pirate ghost ship. Sail the seas in search of your friend and find many islands and quests to complete your mission.
4. Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
Released in 2009, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days was an episode of Square Enix's highly acclaimed Kingdom Hearts series that was exclusive to the DS. Historically, this part takes place between the first and second game on PS2. This album invites us to live the period when Roxas joins Organization XIII alongside various other members. The combat system is in many ways similar to that of the PS2 and gives us the opportunity to explore new Disney worlds.

3. Pokemon SoulSilver and HeartGold
Pokemon SoulSilver and HeartGold were releases in 2009 for the Nintendo DS as remakes of Pokemon Silver and Gold, released on the Gameboy in 2001. As in the first versions, the games offer two whole regions to explore and the day and night feature. Among the many improvements applied were the updated graphics, the online feature, and no less than 493 Pokémon to capture.

2. Mario Kart DS
Introduced in 2005, Mario Kart DS is a racing game taking over the world of Mario and his friends (and enemies). In the many circuits available, pick your favourite character and get started in a racing madness. Throw various objects such as shells or banana peels at your competitors to take or keep the lead. Face your friends for great moments of anthology in the multiplayer mode, either locally or online with the WiFi.

1. The World Ends With You
The World Ends With You is the first original game from Square Enix developed for the DS in which Japanese fashion trends greatly influence the gameplay. In this Action-RPG released in 2008, players evolve as Neku, Shiki and their friends in a race against the clock for their survival. The most notable feature of this game was its battle system, taking full advantage of all the different features of Nintendo DS. Add to this an original story with great plot twists, fun side quests and an awesome mini game, and you get the best game released on the handheld console.

How is mario kart in the top 5 much less in the number 2 spot. Okamiden should be somewhere in this list at least.
