I've seen people say they're hyped for this, but there isn't enough to be hyped about. It seems a bit generic in story, but we'll see.

Given the era of the game setting, I think it would be called Capital actually.

Must have been named by Miyamoto. 
Other options are "Designated City", "Special Ward", "Village", "Metropolis", "Prefecture", "Territory", etc.
Depending on how far one will reach.
Shigeru Miyamoto (宮本茂)'s name literally means "origin of Shinto shrine" (Miyamoto、宮本) and "overgrown" (Shigeru、茂).Must have been named by Miyamoto.
And Miyamoto is not working at Game Freak, so theory busted.

I just thought Miyamoto named it because he likes to name people like 'Mario Mario' and 'Link Link'.
