Toys R Us is reportedly shutting down its US stores

Toys R Us is closing or selling all of its over 800 remaining US stores, according to a report from the Washington Post, signaling an end of an era for the famous toy store. The news was apparently announced to workers today by CEO David Brandon ahead of a bankruptcy court hearing on March 15th.

This is sad to hear. I remember Toys R US has a good selection of video games, and a lot of interesting looking toys at their store.

I think if elementary, high school and college students had more money, Toys R Us may not need to shutdown because a lot of young people enjoy things like video games, remote control cars, drones, water guns, bikes, and other toy and entertainment products sold at Toys R Us.

The music selection in the music CD section of Toys R Us could of been better, I think Toys R Us may of got more music CD buyers if they sold Kpop and Jpop CDs which were popular back when PSY Gangnam style Kpop song was released, and Jpop artists like Utada Hikaru and Anime soundtracks for anime like Full metal alchemist, Inuyasha, Gundam Wing, etc were more popular. Toys R Us may of done better if they also sold more anime, manga, Korean and Japanese Dramas, and higher quality electronics like TVs and Blu-Ray players.

The store in my town closed about over 10 or so years ago, it was sad since it was really a nice toy store but I found their stuff to be over priced.

Toys R Us is mainly popular in the US, UK and Canada.

The store in my town closed about over 10 or so years ago, it was sad since it was really a nice toy store but I found their stuff to be over priced.

I went to a Toys R Us a few month ago. It has some pretty nice toys, and some good video games. Their toys can be over priced.

But, toy stores may need to earn more money to pay their bills because the minimum wage in some states is now $15 an hour, and the price of utilities like electricity, heating, building maintenance and taxes are now more expensive than the past. Toys stores mainly make money from selling toys unlike Target and Wal-mart which also sell groceries, car supplies, household goods, electronics, and appliances. Fewer people visit toys stores these days because they can get the same toy or video game from Wal-Mart, Target, Gamestop, Bestbuy, or Amazon.

I think Toys R Us may still survive if their stores were not as big, and they sold mainly smaller items like video games, art supplies, action figures, music, comics, movies, kids books, and electronics. I feel there are not as many people who buy big toys like sand boxes, tents, go-karts, bikes, and inflatable swimming pool toys because many average people don't live in a house with a yard, or have a swimming pool.

It was quite famous in Australia too. My sister bought some legos and Hero Quest boardgame back then when she visited Melbourne, Australia. There was a giant Toys R Us store in central Melbourne inside Melbourne Central Mall.

Political correctness can be one of the reasons for Toys R US and some toy companies are not doing as well because they are afraid of offending people, so they make less-fun non-violent toys which fewer kids want to buy.

A lot of uninformed people, and the local News post stories which say playing with toy guns and weapons teaches kids to be violent, violent video games causes real-life violence, TV shows with violence like Pokemon and the Power Rangers is too violent, and some movies and kids shows have bad political messages.

Most toys store like Toys R Us probably made a lot of money selling toy guns, video games with violence, soldier and police officer action figures, and DVD/Blu-Ray movies and TV shows with violence in them, so some toy buyers may no longer visit toys store because there are toy weapons and violent games on sale in the store.

I think the changes of population of western country can be one of the reasons toy stores are not doing as well because the toys are not as interesting with some people, or end up offending people who feel many toys like toy swords, guns, and some dolls and action figures are offensive.

Plus, more young kids these days seem to care more about making money and being famous doing popular entertainment related jobs like professional wrestling rather than learning important skills from playing with toys like cooking with a toy oven, learning about science from toy chemistry and physics kit, and gardening with toy gardening tool.
