Looks like a cell phone with just a glass screen. I would buy it if it is cheaper than cell phones with an actual protective case, and made of durable glass.

It seems buyers will soon be getting no case, less plastic, no buttons, and metal when we buy our cell phones, and electronics, and other things in the future if this becomes popular, so the factory can save money by using less materials like plastic, metal, and paint, and don't need as many workers and machines to make cell phones because cell phone will be a piece of glass with a few tiny circuit boards, and batteries which can be put together by robots or a few low skilled workers.

People need to spend extra money for a protective case or bag to protect their glass cell phone which is only a piece of glass.
 
Why is it stupid?

Just making a cellphone with just a glass screen can save money for the factory and buyer because they don't need to make a outer case out of metal or plastic, or physical buttons if the buttons are software touchscreen based, and the phone will be slightly lighter for the user to hold.

The cell phone screen also have a appearance of a bigger screen because there is no bezel from the case. Users sitting on the otherside of the cell phone can also view the picture and text on the screen, so it will also be a dual screen cell phone, or both sides of the cell phone can be the front screen, so you don't need to flip it over to view the screen because both sides are the screen.

The cost savings of not using as much plastic, and metal for the case will make cell phones more affordable for the consumer, and the cell phone factory makes a bigger profit, so they can hire more employees for marketing, and other tasks.

Earth's environment will also suffer less because glass is less harmful to the environment than a plastic and metal case cell phone. People can also re-use their cases if they choose to buy a case for their new cell phone made of transparent glass, so the case won't contaminate the earth.
 
lol you really think just because it's made out of glass that the price will be reduced for the consumer? Are you really thinking companies work like that, just because the use of metal is reduced then the price is reduced.

People will end up spending more money because they broke the glass, or worse they break the glass and cut themselves on the broken glass.

You only need to imagine a glass phone to see how stupid of an idea the whole concept is.
 
I agree with GP, the fact that it's just glass means the consumer will have to buy more protection for it. I know when I got my smartphone I had to get this and that, and it seems to never end.
 
I agree not all companies like Sony, Apple, and Nokia (who are out of touch with frugal budget-minded buyers) will lower the price when a transparent phone is release.

But, many smaller companies founded by Non-profits, graduates, consumers, Chinese Brands like ZTE and college professers will sell a phone for less money with just a screen, and other parts like the battery and circuit board for the phone to stay competitive in the low cost smartphone market.

Not making a case can save a company money by not needing to buy and maintain the machines and molds to make the case, ongoing cost for materials like metal and plastic to make the case, wasted energy and materials from case manufactuering, reduce shipping and fuel cost because the phone is lighter to ship,and industrial designers and engineers to design the case for the phone.

A Glass phone would be like the Rasperry Pi which only cost $35 because it just comes with a the Pi circuit board, and you use your own power adapter with a Micro-USB charging cable, HDMI monitor, keyboard, SD card, and mouse, so you save a lot of money by using accessories which you already own. You can also make your own case out of Lego, wood, or other household items.


With 3D printing, Do it yourself kits, and third party marketplaces to buy cheap cases made by smaller companies like Case Crown on Amazon, eBay, and Craigslists, people can buy their own case for $1-5, and people who don't want a case can save their money instead of being forced to buy a case at a fixed price when buyong a new phone.

Consumers can also make their own cases from card board, wood, metal, house hold items, styrofoam, leather, or denim from a pair of jeans which they no longer wear.

There is plastic glass which is more durable, and durable glass like Gorilla Glass 3 which is more tough to break when drop because of improve glass technology which makes it more durable than Window glass on houses.


An italian company made a snowboard out of glass which survived a few rides down a now mountain.

 
Maybe the phone is made out of see-through plastic like plastic water bottles. I think most likely this will be made out of plastic since a lot of Asian electronics companies use plastic because plastic is usually cheaper than metal, and glass, and possibly cheaper to mail plastic things because plastic is not as heavy as metal and glass.
