Secret Of Mana 3's Hawkeye is awesome!

More intel just dropped, sounds good! Need more Hawkeye though, they haven't really shown Hawkeye other than his new 3d face in the reveal trailer:
  • The project began moving around two years ago.
  • Unlike Secret of Mana, the reason we are making a significantly bolder remake with this game is because this title was never released overseas, so we hope to introduce it as a completely new title.
  • Trials of Mana is one of the conclusions we arrived at through trial and error while listening to the feedback from [the remake of] Secret of Mana. Early in development, we created a prototype that was even closer to the original game, but as a remake after 25 years we were not satisfied with that.
  • The original concept of the Mana series was something along the lines of, “seamlessly play the Final Fantasy series’ ATB battle system.” We called what we ended up with “motion battle,” we weren’t saying it was an action RPG at that time.
  • In Secret of Mana, you were able to fight while changing weapons, but since your weapons were fixed in Trials of Mana, we heard from users that was no good, so with the remake we wanted to fix that.
  • Elements such as combos and jump attacks have been implemented in the remake. It’s being made so you can really enjoy the action parts.
  • While this is probably the most action-heavy game in the series, it is an action RPG through and through, so you enjoy the game even if you’re not good at it so long as you level up.
  • Since action performance differs based on the character, your experience with the game will change based on who you’re playing as.
  • Event scenes are pretty much fully voiced. 30-plus characters all have proper voices.
  • The voice cast will be announced at a later date, but we can say with 100 percent certainty that the voice cast won’t damage the characters’ images.
  • There is a lot that we still can’t say, so fans and non-fans alike please look forward to hearing more.

Just saw the gameplay video, still no Hawkeye gameplay dang it and I also wonder on how are they going to do the Hawkeye/Riesz/Jessica ship thing or are they going remove it all together in this one lol hawkeye and his ladies.

The demo guy picked Duran then showed the part where Duran met Riesz. Duran never had a thing with Riesz or vice versa in the original game while Hawkeye kissed Riesz, Duran got a thing for Angela lol wrong ship there demo guy!

Saw a nice Riesz fan art:

Read Kotaku Jason's Interview with the producer of the remake, Masaru Oyamada:

“The ultimate goal would be to get that glory back,” Mana series producer Masaru Oyamada told me during an E3 interview, speaking through a translator. “With Trials of Mana we really challenged ourselves to provide Mana in a new form, different than how it used to be. And so after the fans see the story and actually play this game for themselves, we would like their feedback on their expectations for Mana games to come, and to take that into consideration for the future.”

Trials of Mana, which will be out in early 2020, is a remake of the previously Japan-only Seiken Densetsu 3. That game was released in 1995 for the Super Famicom, but never made it to the West, despite the popularity of its predecessor, Secret of Mana, .

“We decided on making the new version of Trials of Mana first... We got a lot of feedback from outside Japan saying they wished it was coming to their areas as well,” said Oyamada. “And so we decided to start working on Trials of Mana as a new title, since many of these players had never played it before. Then we showed the remake to the Western teams. They thought it was good, but they were really hoping to get the original version also.”

“We learned that the fans have really high expectations and desires towards titles in this series,” Oyamada said, “and so we really wanted to take that feedback into account and apply it to make improvements when we developed Trials of Mana.”

For example, he said, they plan to add lip synchronization to characters’ voice acting, which was an unsettling omission in Secret of Mana. “That’s one concrete example,” he said. “As far as other various elements go, this time around the system is very different.”

I think they will succeed with the glory thing!

Dualshockers had an extended look of the game. So the story structure of the remake is the same like the original which is a good thing. You'll get different scenes, endings and character scenes stuff by mismatching different characters in each play of the game:

Trials-of-Mana-2.jpg

Players will begin their playthrough by choosing one primary protagonist as well as two additional party members who will act as companions. Each character will have different abilities and your chosen heroes will change the ways in which the story plays out. While these characters are all unique when compared to one another, choosing between one or the other will not affect the game’s overall difficulty.

One of the other producers on the game, Shinichi Tatsuke mentioned that “there’s not a major difference in difficulty depending on who you choose. However, they do have things that they’re strong at. For example, physical aspects, healing, or magic. Depending on who you choose, your playstyle may change.”

The story has six different beginnings and as each character progresses, they will run across one another. The overall plot is shared, but as previously mentioned, there are variations in the narrative depending on which of the three characters you have linked up. The game will have three major endings, so multiple playthroughs are encouraged. In that regard, Oyamada-san had the following to say:
“The way that the story is structured so that no matter what three characters you choose, the other characters’ stories are moving forward in parallel to what you’re doing. Each of them have their own kind of role in this overall story, that’s why we only allow for the player to choose three characters. As far as replayability goes, a lot of players really loved the fact that they could play the original Trials of Mana again and again. This time around, we wanted to make players want to replay it more than the original version. By being able to choose your own combination for yourself, it might make the game even more fun to play again.”

I never got into it much, I know my cousin did so hopefully this is a return to form for the series.

I hope so too. Hawkeye needs a good Mana game.

Read some more stuff on story and characters from vooks and siliconera:

In Trials of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 3), people can see different endings depending on who you picked as your first hero and who might be in the party. For example, Riesz has one standard ending if she is first party member you picked, but that ending has an alternate variation if Hawkeye was also in the group. Producer Shinichi Tatsuke has confirmed that the Trials of Mana remake will also feature multiple endings. However, don’t expect any extra potential party members.

There aren’t going to be any additional characters, because we really wanted to stay true to the spirit of the original release. Also, the characters have a different kind of pair-ups, if you will, and so by addition, additional characters that balance will be disrupted and finally this is the first time this title is available outside of Japan and we wanted to deliver the experience as players in Japan first experienced it.

During the interview, Tatsuke clarified that the Trials of Mana remake’s story would proceed in the same way as the original. He noted, “First of all, the prologues for each of the six characters are completely different and the game also has multiple endings, depending on what combination of characters that you choose. But the story will also change, depending on that character combination.”

Each character has one ending, plus a variant that occurs if a specific person is also in the party. Angela and Duran’s endings will have variants if the other person in the pair is in the party. So do Charlotte and Kevin. The other pair that triggers variants is Hawkeye and Riesz.

They hinted on the "ships" but didn't say anything about Hawkeye's other love interest, Jessica lol harem ending.
