So what would you do if you had 50k dollars and wanted to invest it in the stock market? Well this programmer put it up for all Twitch users to do what they will with it:

Read the madness here.

According to the article, the guy works at Amazon. Amazon owns Twitch, so there is a chance that he is using Amazon's money to invest in stocks live on Twitch to help promote Twitch.

I think some small unpopular company which is listed on the stock market will get extra buyers for their stocks if any of the Twitch members buy their stock to help the guy invest his 50K.

Most likely, some Twitch users own or work for a small unpopular company listed on the stock market, and use this guy's money to buy their stock.

hard to say, but they did mention he can write it off as a tax expense if he does end up losing.

I think there is a chance this is not actually real, and he is using a stock simulation game, and in-game money in the game which look like the real stock market stock buying programs.

These stock market simulation games let you buy virtual stocks in a game, and not spend any money, and also not earn or lose any money because it is a game like those virtual slot machines games for smartphones. These games are good for learning about how to buy stocks without the risk of losing all your money by buying unprofitable stocks.
