Twitter may soon be taking on hosting duties for videos uploaded by its users, according to AllThingsD. Such a move could help deliver a more seamless experience across various devices — which has become a priority for the company in recent months. Currently those who want to embed a video in their tweet must turn to third-party services like TwitVid or yFrog, which isn't what we'd call an ideal solution.
I think Twitter with video will make it more convenient, and reliable for Twitter members to share video on Twitter since members won't need to use YouTube, and any other site to host video on Twitter. Hopefully, there is not a short time limit like 30 seconds for the videos.
I wonder when will Twitter let members upload music and voice recordings to Twitter.
Twitter already allows people to embed video with YouTube, Vimeo, and other video site by just pasting the video links except you need to click "view video link" to unhide the video in a member's Twitter status update. Twitter hosting their own video can make videos load faster since some video hosts like Dailymotion, etc are kind of slow when it comes to loading video, and there would be fewer videos which are gone because YouTube and other video sites removed them because of copyright problems.
Twitter needs to improve its search engine, and make categories for videos on their website before they can compete with other video sites which have better search engines, and ways of finding videos to watch with categories, tags, and most viewed page.
Twitter might be good for hosting 5 minute or shorter videos like music videos, movie and video game trailers, or videos which people post to say hi, good night, see ya later, or a location of a event like a concert since posting to YouTube would take too much time because you have to edit a video, login, upload a video, write a title, description, tags, categorize your video, put the video in a playlist, and make a thumbnail for it if you are a YouTube partner while with Twitter you can just use an App on your phone or your computer to record a short video, and upload it, and give your twett a title.
Also, people who can't write because they are illiterate, or never did well in English class, can still record what they want to say in video to post to Twitter.
I don't see how video could ruin Twitter since video is just another way which people use to share information.
Facebook, Google Plus, and many other social sites support direct video upload are doing fine.
The annoying problem with embeding is the site which you are embeding from could delete your video, or closed down for good, and your left with a video player which has no video to play because the video got deleted by YouTube, or other sites.
An illiterate, can't read and write, so they can't write 140 characters of text without a lot of spelling mistakes, and grammar problems.
Maybe Twitter video hosting would be better as a separate website/service like how Twitter uses Photobucket to host direct uploads for photos without the user needing to going to Photobucket.com and logging in as long as you are log in to Twitter.
But, I think this new Twitter video feature will be like http://www.keek.com/ and http://www.viddy.com/ which only let people post short videos shorter then 36 seconds.
I think YouTube is kind of becoming more about sitcoms, talk shows, and TV shows, and isn't as simple for an average person like a few years a go when a YouTuber who records with a basic digital camera can get a lot of views by posting funny and interesting videos, but now YouTube is harder for getting views then the past because of increase competition from Online Networks like Maker Studio, or real TV networks like G4, CBS, etc which post to YouTube.
If Twitter can make a way for people to more easily share, and promote good videos on it sites, I think more people will use Twitter to promote their videos vs just for posting Text, links, and photos.
