X is now rolling out audio and video calls to non premium subscribsers.

So, now this puts X in direct competion with Facebook’s calling audio and video calls service along with whatsapp, instagram and apple.

X makes audio and video calls available to more users

As shared by X engineer Enrique Barragan and also reposted by the company’s CEO Linda Yaccarino, the platform is slowly rolling out audio and video calls to those who don’t subscribe to X Premium.

For those unfamiliar, X Premium (formerly known as Twitter Blue) is a paid subscription that unlocks more features such as the ability to edit posts, upload longer videos, and format text. Subscribers also get a verified badge, have greater reach with their posts, and see fewer ads.

Soon, everyone will be able to make and receive calls with the X app, not just those who pay. The feature is built into direct messaging and works in a similar way to other apps that support calls, such as WhatsApp and Instagram. Due to integration with the iOS CallKit API, you’ll see incoming calls on the Lock Screen, just like a regular call.

Will you be making calls on X anytime soon?

I'm surprise it took X/Twitter so long to add video and audio chat to its website for non-paid users. I hope video and audio chat on X goes well.

If I had more friends and family on X, I would be open to using video and audio chat for private video or audio chats.

I have Discord for this

Never have I felt this was necessary. At least it's there.

More options can be beneficial to people but then so many people are pressed for time. It's a conundrum!
I say have the options there but doesn't mean everybody has to use all of them.

Hopefully, X video chat will be compatible with older operating systems and devices.

It would be nice if X works well on slower Android smartphones and lowend desktop computers which cost $300 or less.

I think X video chat could be useful for people who no longer want to use Skype, Zoom, and Google Hangouts for some reason.
