THE FIRST UBUNTU SMARTPHONE, otherwise known as BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition, has gone on sale.
The first batch of Ubuntu-powered handsets will be made available through a series of flash sales, and the first was announced via Twitter on Wednesday.
The handset is available to pick up now from the BQ website for €169.90 (around £125), and UK buyers will be offered a Giffgaff SIM when they purchase it. No exact shipping date has been mentioned, but BQ is that buyers will receive a delivery in March.
However, just a few hours after it went on sale, the Ubuntu smartphone has already sold out - with the website promising more stock at the next flash sale.
As the price tag suggests, it hasn't got too much going for it in the specs department. There's a 4.5in screen, Mediatek A7 quad-core processor running at 1.3GHz, 1GB RAM and 8GB built-in storage. The camera on the rear of the phone is 8MP, and there's a 5MP snapper on the front.

Ubuntu Smartphone does look like a nice smartphone.
These Ubuntu phones look like a pretty good deal for £125 in the UK. I bet most of the people who bought the Ubuntu phones are Ubuntu fans, Linux fans, geeks, Computer/tech students, computer teachers, techies and App and Game developers who need a Ubuntu Phone to test their Ubuntu apps, and games, so they can publish their apps, and games soon, and get more downloads to stay at the most downloaded app charts before the Ubuntu app store is full of apps like the Android, Amazon, and iOS app store which has too much competition where Facebook, Google, Netflix, and YouTube are on the top most downloaded charts.
