Ugh, my CPU fan is really annoying me right now.

My computer seems to be using more CPU up than usual for smaller things.
I mean for the first two years I had my PC, I never ever heard my fan shoot up to max speed, but now it seems to do it regularly. I only have to do something like convert files in Winamp to WAV (with the Disk Writer plug-in), and eventually it'll go at full speed. It's not like my PC is enclosed in an oven or something.

I've learned to cope with mine. I tried calling tech support, they said if it was annoying, why didn't I turn it off?

Do you defrag your HDDs at least once a week? They can begin to get pretty hot if you don't and cause your fans to run harder. Especially since you said you are converting files, which fragments your HDD easily.
