A group of 12-year-old girls had the police called on them after they decided to bring their iPhones and iPads to a showing of The Hunger Games at a local cinema. The police officers who rushed to the scene were unable to find any recorded footage, but by then the children were too distressed to watch the rest of the film.

The movie industry sees the illegal recording of movies as one of the biggest piracy threats and for years has gone to extremes to stop it.

It started well over a decade ago when visitors began sneaking handheld camcorders into theaters. These big clunkers were easy to spot, but as time passed the recording devices became smaller and easier to hide.

I guest it is best to keep your smartphones, and tablets turned off, and in your pocket, or bag to prevent cinemas from suspecting you are recording the movie.

It is also very annoying when people talk on the phone, text in a movie theater because the light from a phone's screen, and sounds from a phone is distracting me from watching a movie.

recording or not, its common curtsey to keep the devices shut off and put away.

I agree it is common courtesy to keep all devices turn off, and also not talk to others, or make noises while watching a movie. I don't get why people use their phones during movies since movie tickets are so expensive costing $10 or more, so they might as well watch it with their full attention.

People have really short attention spans these days.
The quality of movies also may have gone down as well, so people aren't entertained as much compared to older movies like Spiderman 1, and the Lion King. I remember watching Planet of the Apes, and being somewhat disappointed with the ending, and other parts of the movie.
