Unity, the company behind the game engine of the same name, has entered into agreements to buy the special effects studio Weta Digital for $1.63billion. Weta digital was the vfx studio behind films like the Lord of the Rings and Marvel's Shiang Chi, along with James Cameron's epic Avatar. The acquisition will include proprietary VFX like hair and fur simulators which could be included in the titular game engine in the near future.

Aw dude. Unity is... HUGE. The engine and software is used EVERYWHERE. All of San Francisco and Bay Area transportation with these fancy screens all run Unity. People are using it for VR integration now. It such a diverse and technologically advanced engine that I wouldn't be surprised if people started building websites on it.
